Former Nation Pizza COO Mike Alagna from Hoffman Estates died Saturday at 80, and his family, friends, and business peers remembered him for showing young people that success could come from hard work outside of academia—his work helped build local programs like Harper College’s Advanced Manufacturing initiative and the Harper Promise scholarship. Visitation is today at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services in Schaumburg and a Mass is scheduled for Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Community in Inverness.

The Chicago Police Department warned Woodlawn residents that armed robbers used online marketplaces to lure sellers as investigations continue into robberies on July 27 along East 63rd Street and August 15 along South Evans Avenue—urging people to stay alert.
