CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Hyde Park School of Dance will perform its annual The Nutcracker, featuring families and siblings sharing the stage, at Mandel Hall (1131 E. 57th St.) from Dec. 12 to Dec. 14. The large cast highlights the school’s long-standing community ties. Hyde Park Herald
- ➤ UIC Pep Band boosted school spirit as its membership grew from 7 to nearly 90 under director Nicholas Carlson. The band played at the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 12 and has become a favorite part of UIC campus events. Today UIC
- ➤ Holly-Day lit up Hyde Park on Dec. 6 as families came early to enjoy festive activities including meeting Maui Santa, Soul Santa, and Mrs. Claus and watching ice sculpture demos and holiday showcases. Organizers celebrated nine years of tradition, though The Promontory will close at the end of this year. Hyde Park Herald
