- ➤ Area groups and elected officials are hosting Thanksgiving food giveaways this weekend. Jeanette Taylor is giving away free turkeys today at 10 a.m. at her ward office on S. Wentworth Ave—Alpha Kappa Alpha will offer Butterball turkeys on Nov. 22 at the AKArama Community Service Center, a joint event at South Side YMCA will provide turkeys, hams and sides on Nov. 22, and a food drive will start at 2 p.m. on Nov. 23 at Kenwood Academy. - ➤ Lynn’s Chicago Pizza closed its Woodlawn storefront last week after failing to meet daily sales goals and facing mounting financial pressure. Owner Brandon Bruner Sr. said the business will shift to catering-only operations and launch Lynn’s Pasta Company with pasta kits set for Dec. 1 — he plans pop-up events and a new location by summer. - ➤ South Side Weekly journalists were honored at the Chicago Journalists Association’s 86th Anniversary Award Ceremony held at the Newberry Library on the Near North Side. Alma Campos, Jim Daley and other reporters received awards for immigration coverage, investigative reporting and public service — a recognition that spotlights local journalism. South Side Weekly
