Good morning, Chicago.
🎭 Culture
On Nov. 15, the Hyde Park Art Center raised $515,000 at a $750-a-plate gala held under a large tent with over 300 supporters and honored artist Amanda Williams and nonprofit founder Esther Grimm.
Organizers said the fundraiser drew the largest crowd since the Covid-19 pandemic and helped cover a $100,000 funding gap — launching a new residency program for deaf and disabled artists.
🎓 Education
UIC scientists from University of Illinois Chicago recreated the early universe by slamming oxygen ions together at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva—making quark and gluon plasma that was 10,000—hotter than the sun.
They ran experiments in July and produced results in September after nearly six months of work.
