- ➤ On November 12 at 12:00 p.m., IPCE hosted a Civic Engagement Lunch Talk featuring Barbara Sostaita—PhD, Esmeralda Arrizón-Palomera—PhD and Jorge Mena Robles—MA, who explained their method of collecting oral histories from UIC student activists involved in undocumented movements from the mid-2000s to the 2010s; the discussion resulted in a public digital archive and provided lunch for participants. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UIC's Department of Linguistics invites Chicagoans to join a Zoom talk with Jared Coleman, PhD, a professor from Loyola Marymount University and a member of the Big Pine Paiute Tribe who will explain how AI can help bring back endangered languages using small amounts of data. He will also discuss important ethical checks—asking how best to work with the communities that speak these languages. Today UIC

- ➤ The Northern Lights were visible in parts of Chicago on Nov. 11, including over Hyde Park’s Promontory Point—this rare display came from severe geomagnetic storms that also made the phenomenon visible as far south as Florida and Alabama. Hyde Park Herald
