CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, local residents attended the first annual Hyde Park Art Walk at SOPHY Hotel with art displayed at local businesses along 53rd Street and Harper Court. Today, Hyde Park hosts events including the Youth Symphony Halloween Bash and 70th Anniversary celebration at Nichols Park gym from 1:30 to 4 p.m., a Trunk or Treat Fest in Kenwood from 2 to 5 p.m., a reading event at the Seminary Co-op Bookstore from 3 to 4 p.m., and an Evening of Horror & Suspense at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures at 7:30 p.m. — all free with RSVP or donation requirements.  Hyde Park Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UIC students in the Introduction to Economic Geography course heard director Kevin Shaw discuss his documentary Let the Little Light Shine, which was filmed at National Teachers Academy in a South Loop neighborhood and examines racial inequalities in school districts. Lecturer Matthew Furlong added the film to the course this year after students expressed strong emotional responses during a discussion on Sept. 17.  Today UIC
