CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ After failed lease talks with the University of Chicago, The Promontory will hold its final event just after midnight on New Year's Eve—marking the end of over a decade of live music, comedy shows and community events at 5311 S. Lake Park Ave. Operators will host themed parties with well-known artists until closure while the university seeks a new tenant to revitalize the neighborhood. Hyde Park Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Illinois College of Medicine hosted its annual alumni awards, honoring graduates for breakthroughs in heart and lung transplants, community service, and public health data. Award winners (Michael R. Bristow, Jeanne Y. Wei, Vijay S. Khiani, and Jennifer E. Layden) were recognized for their work advancing medical research and community health programs. Today UIC
- ➤ UIC is advancing its ADA Title II digital accessibility initiative by providing training to over 1,300 participants and offering more than 280 consultations while scanning hundreds of websites and courses for issues. University leaders must complete accessibility training by Nov. 26 and use new tools like the Equalify Dashboard expected Jan. 30 to address content problems ahead of the April 26 deadline. Today UIC

- ➤ Researchers at UIC found that a drop in platelet factor 4 may cause blood stem cells to age, which can lead to blood cancers and immune problems. They added the protein to older mice and human cell samples and reversed these signs of aging—offering a promising step toward future treatments. Today UIC
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UIC community shone at the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon today as over 250 students volunteered to cheer and assist runners on a 26.2-mile course while faculty and staff ran to support causes like HIV prevention and clean water. Volunteers worked bright and early at water stations and gear checks, contributing over 1,000 service hours and fueling campus spirit—Flames pride lit every cheering point. Today UIC
