Starbucks closed its Hyde Park 55th Street store last Saturday as part of a plan that shut down over a dozen Chicago locations and 400 U.S. stores while cutting jobs.

The company said it targeted stores that could not meet customer and money goals—its changes are meant to improve performance moving forward.

The Hyde Park Jazz Festival drew record crowds across 12 venues last weekend, where jazz acts like the Soul Message Trio and the Hamid Drake Quartet played lively sets—organizers said the event raised $10,000 more in donations than its next best year despite reduced support and a missing $30,000 grant.
