ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 83-year-old man died Tuesday night after a car struck him when he was crossing Potter Road near West Golf Road in the Des Plaines area — Cook County sheriff’s police are investigating the crash.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg will host the inaugural Tamagotchi USA Road Trip pop-up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.—the event follows the launch of the new Tamagotchi Paradise device and lets fans shop, play games and meet Mametchi in person.  Daily Herald
  • Washington Park’s Sunken Garden hosted the African Festival of the Arts last weekend after a yearlong pause, drawing over 11,000 visitors to enjoy dancing, drum circles and artisan stalls — organizers trimmed the budget after a near $850,000 loss last year. Organizers say they will expand the event for all ages on Labor Day weekend next year — details are still being planned.  Hyde Park Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Palatine village council members will vote on new rules for e-bikes and e-scooters to improve safety by banning their use on sidewalks and major roads—requirements include helmets and state safety standards. The council discussed the proposals Tuesday and will hold a final vote on Sept.15 with exemptions for government duties, disability, and young riders supervised by a parent.  Daily Herald

  • Tom Broders, known as Bubbie from his caddy days, returns home today at Kemper Lakes Golf Club for the Good Good King of the Mountain challenge that pairs content creators like Paige Spiranac in a knockout scramble. Eight teams compete for a $100,000 prize pool—$50,000 of which will go to charity as fans enjoy a fan zone, food trucks, a long-drive contest, and a concert by Corey Kent this evening.  Daily Herald
