CRIME NEWS

  • Eric Neuman, 52, of Carol Stream is accused of setting his home on fire Saturday by pouring gasoline into six containers and placing propane tanks to cause an explosion that damaged neighboring houses+ a judge denied his pretrial release on Sunday and he will appear in court on Sept.22.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago is appealing a judge’s ruling that denied its request to join Haymarket Center’s lawsuit against Itasca for rejecting a plan to convert a former Holiday Inn into a 240-bed treatment facility—Haymarket leaders say the appeal will help address alleged disability discrimination while Itasca will reply by September.  Daily Herald
  • City and state leaders said Chicago should not get a National Guard deployment—officials report that crime rates have dropped and the crisis to justify such a move is absent. They added that the federal government has not contacted local officials about the plan, which they call unlawful and unnecessary.  Daily Herald
