Good morning, Chicago. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 5th of August.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After 67 years in Arlington Heights, Persin & Robbin Jewelers opened a new 8200 square foot flagship store in Deer Park at the corner of Quentin and Lake Cook Roads and will close its Arlington Heights branch on Friday (24 S. Dunton Ave.). The new store features a modern design and a 1200 square foot Rolex section (an official Rolex service center) to better serve customers.  Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Martha Mueller emailed her resignation from the Glenbard board on July 7 at 3:15 p.m.—she then rescinded her resignation later that day when it became clear her Safeway job did not pose a conflict, but board attorneys ruled the resignation effective and the board is accepting applications to fill the vacancy by noon on Aug. 15.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lake County Forest Preserve District has recommended three deals: selling 4.7 acres for $610,000 to expand Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, buying 121 acres for a new preserve, and adding 144 acres to Kestrel Ridge Forest Preserve. The 4.7-acre sale will let the cemetery be used for 50 years—providing space for columbaria—and the full board will vote on these deals Aug. 13.  Daily Herald
