- ➤ Authorities recovered the body of a missing kayaker early Thursday after a search led by the St. Charles Fire Department on the Fox River near Ferson Creek Fen—two kayakers were fishing Tuesday night when one tipped and did not return. Daily Herald

- ➤ A group of startups, universities, and government agencies will build the biggest quantum computer at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park on the Southeast Side—Gov. JB Pritzker backs the project and it will give tax breaks to help Chicago lead in quantum research. South Side Weekly

- ➤ Naperville police are seeking help finding missing adult Olasinmibo Abosede, nicknamed 'Sinmi,' who was last seen on the 2100 block of Sudbury Street west of Springbrook Golf Course at 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday—she is described as having black hair, brown eyes, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds—and foul play is not suspected. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Chicago is not releasing the list of officers promoted through a merit process because the city argues that sharing the records would invade privacy—critics and a lawsuit claim this move hides key details about police promotions. South Side Weekly
- ➤ State leaders said insurance companies are not clear about rate hikes and plan to urge lawmakers to limit auto premium factors to driving records—officials also questioned State Farm for a 27.2% jump in home insurance rates without proper proof. Hyde Park Herald
- ➤ Chicago advocates called for nearly $200 million set aside for empty police jobs to be used for mental health and non-police crisis teams after a July 16 press event.
