- ➤ Mike McClain, a longtime lobbyist and close friend of former speaker Michael Madigan, was sentenced on Thursday to two years in prison for his role in a ComEd bribery scheme that funneled contracts and jobs to Madigan allies (as part of the ComEd Four case). Daily Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Beautiful Lives Project, a nonprofit that promotes inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities, will host a private fashion show at the CD Peacock Mansion at Oakbrook Center on August 7 featuring 10 local participants who will choose Nordstrom outfits by tactile selection. Founder Bryce Weiler, who is blind, said the event — the organization’s first venture into fashion — uses touch to create a unique experience and paves the way for similar programs elsewhere. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Cloud HQ is planning to change the design of its approved $2.5 billion data center in Mount Prospect by building a continuous, taller structure along Algonquin Road instead of three separate buildings on Linneman Road, with the project originally breaking ground in 2022 on the former United Airlines headquarters site. Mount Prospect officials said the firm will submit an amended plan next month— and it may add another substation as Cloud HQ prepares to start moving dirt this fall. Daily Herald

- ➤ Cook County announced Tuesday it awarded $25 million in grants to 28 local groups to help prevent gun violence and support survivors. The funding will pay for services like counseling, trauma therapy, outreach, and emergency housing—building on earlier programs that lowered shootings by nearly 40% compared to last year. - ➤ The Government Finance Research Center at the University of Illinois Chicago is holding an informational session about the Illinois Certified Public Manager® Program — a flexible, accredited course that builds skills in budgeting, performance management and strategic planning, offered online and in-person. - ➤ Public health officials reported the first human case of West Nile virus in DuPage County when a Glen Ellyn resident in their 50s first showed symptoms in mid-July.
