ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A pilot survived a rough landing after his small plane lost power shortly after takeoff from Aurora Municipal Airport on Tuesday morning—air traffic controllers used a light gun to guide the aircraft when its landing gear did not fully deploy—and he was not injured as he headed to Florida, with federal authorities investigating the incident. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Monday’s council meeting in West Chicago, aldermen approved Mayor Daniel Bovey’s agreement to extend former City Administrator Michael Guttman’s role through Jan. 31—saving $15,000—and allowing the mayor to drop his Thursday court case. The council also approved interim legal counsel and city representation for a greenhouse case, with the next meeting scheduled for July 21. Daily Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at UIC are starting a study to see if kidney fMRI scans can find chronic kidney disease without the risks of a biopsy. The study uses $3.8 million from the NIH and involves over 400 patients—computer tools will help find new patterns in kidney health. Today UIC
