CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo Grove Park District’s Big Deal Productions will present Big The Musical from July 18 to 27 at the Buffalo Grove Community Arts Center, based on the 1988 film and featuring local talent including the Laska family—Mark, Jessica, Liam, and Bridget. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. on July 18, 19, and 25 and 3 p.m. on July 20, 26, and 27 at 225 McHenry Road, with tickets at $20 for adults and teens and $15 for children and seniors.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. JB Pritzker began his third campaign for governor last week—stopping four times around the state to discuss his plans for a third term and answer questions about potential national ambitions. He said he will choose a new running mate by the end of July—his campaign will start filing nominating petitions in early August to protect his record and get more for Illinois.  Daily Herald
  • Hoffman Estates police now use a new VR training simulator that feels so real it makes officers’ blood pressure rise and their breathing quick — showing them risky scenarios like traffic stops and domestic abuse calls. The system, added as part of a contract with Axon, will soon be open for public demonstrations during open houses and National Night Out events.  Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Public Health added 180 new ZIP codes to the high-risk lead testing list—bringing the total to 1,350—and children in these areas are automatically tested, with every ZIP code set to be included by next year. This action covers parts of 47 counties to help detect and prevent harmful lead exposure in young children.  Daily Herald
