ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash early Monday morning at Irving Park Road and Mercury Drive in Schaumburg — a 28-year-old man was initially treated for life-threatening injuries that were later determined non-life-threatening as officials continue their investigation. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Red Clay Dance Company from Woodlawn got a $203,116 grant last month to expand its dance studio by turning an old 1,800-square-foot space into a larger hall for dance classes and workshops—this will help the group serve more people and host more events. The Grand Ballroom on Cottage Grove got a $152,712 grant to build a new commercial kitchen so it can support more community events—both grants come from the city’s Neighborhood Opportunity Fund. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Illinois spent over $700 million last year to attract quantum technology companies and boost the local economy, and officials have now inked deals with international groups, federal labs, and private partners in Chicago — actions that could add many jobs. State and business leaders plan to break ground soon on a research park on Chicago’s South Side to further develop the high-tech sector. Hyde Park Herald

- ➤ UIC launched the EXITO program in summer 2024 to offer nine undergraduates three years of research training and mentorship that help them address community health disparities. - ➤ A redevelopment project in Lombard is transforming a faded furniture store site near +Roosevelt and Finley roads+ into the Burj Plaza lifestyle center with a banquet hall that will hold up to 1,500 guests. Other buildings will be converted into a drive-through restaurant and smoking establishment, and village trustees must approve final plans before the banquet hall opens by +Memorial Day+. - ➤ 16-year-old Daniel Johnson rode with his horse Django and won the Texas flag race at Broken Arrow’s Speed & Action Rodeo Horse Show on June 15 at South Shore Cultural Center—marking his second ride since his summer shoulder injury. Hyde Park Herald
