- ➤ Palatine Township Elementary District 15 will start a new policy in fall that requires students to keep smartphones turned off and stored in lockers or backpacks during class (developed by a 12-member committee) and allows exceptions for students with approved plans (like IEPs or Section 504 plans). - ➤ Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned a lost Purple Heart—awarded to WWII veteran Edward Gorski Jr.—to his family in a ceremony in Geneva on Thursday, with the medal presented to his grandson Shawn Gorski who also served in the Army. Daily Herald
