Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 12th of June.
Good morning, Chicago.
🏘️ Community
UIC’s Master of City Design program and the Illinois Medical District Commission developed 'City Center West,' a plan for a vibrant mixed-use center on the West Side.
Recognized by World Business Chicago and featured at Chicago Cultural Center, the vision envisions new housing, transit & public spaces by 2050.
🎓 Education
UIC will switch to the TripShot app for shuttle bus and Night Ride services effective June 14 to offer tap-to-board access, real-time routes, and better alerts (users should report issues via the app's feedback tool or by calling 312-355-0555).
🏥 Health
Donald Barge overcame stage 3 colorectal cancer after emergency surgery and a reverse colostomy at UI Health in May and September 2025.
His recovery allowed him to walk miles daily and resume an active life (a testament to his dedicated care team).
Illinois legislators approved a Medicaid bill that will remove coverage for about 10,000 legal noncitizens, including refugees and asylum-seekers, to meet new federal rules.
Enrollees will keep coverage until Oct. 1 (if enrolled), and rights groups urge affected residents to visit local community clinics.
