CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ John and Galia Miloucheva Kuo planned to return the Balkanske Igre festival to Hyde Park—marking its 60th year—but after John's death, his wife, daughter Maria and others organized the tribute event with international Balkan dancers. The festival took place last weekend at the University of Chicago's Ida Noyes Hall and celebrated years of Eastern European music and dance. Hyde Park Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The village of Rosemont and school officials announced an agreement where the village will cover extra costs for a new $57 million school and indoor pool as part of bypassing the formal bidding process—school board members will vote on the construction contract next Monday. The building will be constructed at Lange Park to replace the old 1960s school and is set to open for classes in August 2027—while the village also takes on park district duties. Daily Herald
- ➤ Academic professionals attended a UIC trivia and networking event on June 4 that connected them with UIC’s history and Chicago’s vibrant West Side through trivia and conversation—hosted by Ed O’Neill from UIC Law Career Services—while light snacks and beverages were provided. Today UIC
- ➤ Five hundred twenty-six students graduated at Kenwood Academy on Tuesday, June 3 at Credit Union 1 Arena — the ceremony celebrated their resilience and academic achievements. - ➤ Mount Prospect is hosting a public meeting today from 5-7 p.m. in the Farley Community Room at Village Hall—50 S. Emerson St.—to present the Central Road Railroad Crossing Phase I Study and invite residents to review project displays, ask questions, and offer feedback on plans to improve safety and mobility at the rail crossing and its nearby intersection.
