ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Mount Prospect man suffered serious injuries when he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on Friday in Des Plaines - police said the 41-year-old driver was taken to a hospital and northbound Elmhurst Road was closed for two hours for investigation.  Daily Herald

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Latrell Garnett, owner of the vegan restaurant Conscious Plates in Woodlawn, is seeking to raise $100K online to pay down debts and retool operations. The funds will cover half for debt repayment and half for kitchen upgrades—helping the small team keep the business open.  Hyde Park Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal prosecutors filed a memo on Friday recommending a 12½-year prison sentence for former House Speaker Michael Madigan for lying on the witness stand and using his office for personal gain—he will be sentenced on June 13 by U.S. District Judge John Blakey following his conviction on bribery conspiracy and wire fraud.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois public libraries must soon keep opioid overdose reversal medication as House Bill 1910—proposed by Elgin high school senior Jordan Henry—passed the Senate and now awaits Gov. JB Pritzker's review for signature.  Daily Herald
  • Illinois lawmakers passed two bills aimed at helping mothers earlier this week—one requires employers to give workers paid time off to pump milk while the other lets certified nurse midwives help with home births in areas with few maternity care services. Both bills now await governor approval—expected to improve maternal health care access statewide.  Daily Herald
  • Illinois lawmakers passed a bill that will put fees & limits on pharmacy benefit managers to lower prescription costs and support small independent pharmacies. The Senate approved the law with nearly all votes and it now awaits action in the House.  Hyde Park Herald
  • Today, many Chicago families face high child care costs that force parents to change jobs, delay buying homes, or have fewer children because Illinois’ CCAP has strict income limits—rules that leave up to 130,000 children without help. The program’s lower-than-federal guidelines add extra pressure on parents in expensive areas who need reliable care to work and study.  Daily Herald
  • Maple Meadows golf course in Wood Dale is set for a major renovation as the DuPage County forest preserve board will vote next week on a contract with Wadsworth Golf Construction. The upgrade will include a new course layout, irrigation system, cart paths and parking lot work for nearly $14.9 million—efforts aimed at reducing maintenance costs and enhancing the course’s ecological value.  Daily Herald

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Former U.S. Open coach Kamau Murray, founder of XS Tennis, proposed a dual hotel-apartment complex at 5301 S. State St. in Washington Park to support his tennis and education center — the plan features a six-story hotel, a five-story building with 51 apartments, and retail space, and it now awaits a zoning committee hearing.  Hyde Park Herald
