- ➤ Christine S. Eilers, 51, of McHenry was charged with aggravated DUI in a fatal hit-and-run that killed 24-year-old Austin Stanek on Sept. 27 near Island Lake — court records show she hid her car in her boyfriend's garage after the crash. Daily Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The College of DuPage will host a Japanese art show at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art in Glen Ellyn that will open Saturday and run through Sept. 21—displaying woodblock prints, paintings and handcrafted objects from Japan's Edo period. The exhibit has interactive areas where visitors can learn about the start of manga and Japan's art traditions. Daily Herald

- ➤ Gov. JB Pritzker said Wednesday he will veto any budget that includes broad-based tax hikes on individual, corporate or sales taxes as lawmakers complete final FY26 talks amid lower revenue estimates. He made the remarks at a library ceremony honoring former Gov. Jim Edgar — and business groups warned that potential digital ad taxes could hurt the economy. Daily Herald
- ➤ Schaumburg trustees have banned drone flights within 100 feet of village-owned property after the state reinstated local authority to regulate drone use — officials said the rule, designed for safety, replaces the earlier event-only ban and will still allow overhead photography. Daily Herald

- ➤ The Schaumburg Boomers hit three home runs and secured an 8-3 win to finish a 5-1 homestand by sweeping the Evansville Otters at Wintrust Field on Wednesday night. Anthony Calarco hit his fifth home run of the season—while Kyle Fitzgerald and Banks Tolley provided extra power to boost the team’s scoring. Daily Herald
