- ➤ Buffalo Grove honored the team that saved Sara Franklin's life this past Monday during National EMS Week by recognizing bystanders, a dispatcher, and first responders who acted quickly after she collapsed at Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion on Jan. 17. Franklin, who works for the National Safety Council, said she will share her story as an ambassador—emphasizing the community effort that gave her renewed purpose. Daily Herald

- ➤ Brian Maloney spent two years researching 51 Arlington Heights soldiers who fought in the Civil War—finding nine names that will be read at Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony and honored with engraved bricks at Memorial Park. - ➤ Chicago’s National Public Housing Museum opened in April in the last remaining Jane Addams Homes building to preserve artifacts and oral histories from public housing residents. - ➤ Chicago school board members Che “Rhymefest” Smith and Jessica Biggs held a town hall last Saturday at Bronzeville’s Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church to discuss CPS funding, charter school standards, and the search for a new CEO. - ➤ UIC scientists won the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for their work with the CMS Collaboration at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider— the world’s most powerful particle accelerator. - ➤ During Wednesday’s City Council meeting, alderpersons delayed a proposal that would let police call snap curfews for teen gatherings—voting instead to postpone the measure until next month amid concerns over concentrated authority. Council members also approved several costly settlements, including a $5 million deal for a frostbite case and a $15.5 million settlement for a parking meter dispute, raising concerns over increased taxpayer costs. - ➤ The Village of Dolton plans to acquire Pope Leo XIV’s childhood home at 212 E. 141st Place — set for auction on June 18 — by using eminent domain or direct purchase, according to village attorney Burton Odelson. The current owners renovated the home and listed it for $219,000, but prospective buyers are warned that the sale may only be temporary. Daily Herald
