BUSINESS NEWS

  • Owner Justin Maki— a local bodybuilder—plans to convert the vacant 48,000-square-foot Carson’s Furniture Gallery at 480 Ring Drive in Vernon Hills into a new Ryse Athletic Club that will offer a full-size basketball court, fitness zones, group classes and healthy food to go; the village board approved the conversion and an architect will visit the site today while Maki aims to open the club in fall.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Chicago City Council public safety committee passed a revised curfew ordinance today (10-7 vote) that gives the CPD superintendent sole power to set a snap curfew with a 30-minute notice. The measure will go to a final council meeting on Wednesday as lawmakers decide whether to defer the vote.  South Side Weekly

  • The Chicago Blackhawks are close to finalizing their coaching search and one candidate, Jeff Blashill, is expected to bring his NHL experience to teach young players and manage veterans—his approach may boost the team’s rebuilding efforts.  Daily Herald
