- ➤ UIC’s African Graduate Student Association hosted its inaugural Africa Day Gala on April 11 at Cardinal Hall — the event brought together faculty, students, alums and professionals from Chicagoland who enjoyed a cultural performance by Senegal’s Mande Group and a panel discussion on Africans in the Diaspora. - ➤ UIC Honors College students interviewed public housing residents for the National Public Housing Museum archives as part of a spring class project on affordable housing. Teacher Matthew Furlong and expert Liú Chen guided students who showcased their oral histories at a reception held in April (at the museum on Taylor Street). Today UIC

- ➤ Tenants report that after Mavrik Capital bought a Hyde Park building in Oct. 2025, non-renewal notices led to rapid, unpermitted renovations — including water shutoffs, laundry closure, and quiet construction. City inspectors will re-inspect the building soon to ensure compliance. Hyde Park Herald
