- ➤ On Mar. 10, window washers Jorge Chavez and Cristian Ilgor Moreno of Ascent Building Services cleaned high-rise windows in the Loop, relying on specialized rigs and safety gear amid cold March weather. - ➤ Mumbai-born Tulika Ladsariya now works as a full-time artist in Chicago, blending natural materials and memory in her work. She recently completed a creative residency at Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest & connected with other local artists to deepen her craft. South Side Weekly
- ➤ Neon sign maker Dino Rigoni, with a 40-year career, works from his Munster garage studio — his apprentice Tessa Troutman commutes weekly from the South Side to learn his handcrafted craft. - ➤ Jorge Mújica (50 years of advocacy) is a veteran labor organizer who has helped workers recover millions in lost wages. He held a rights workshop on March 20 at Arise Chicago to educate local workers on their legal protections. South Side Weekly
- ➤ UIC Police Department will host a free self-defense class (for women 18+) on March 29, April 19 and 26, May 3 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at room 224, 761 W. Polk St. Women must email Sgt. Tawanna Clark to RSVP by 3 p.m. Friday before session. Today UIC
- ➤ Today, Angie Viands of South Side Occupational Academy teaches urban agriculture where students research chicken breeds, fix coops, and tend orchards and microgreens (part of Chicago Public Schools’ career and technical education program). South Side Weekly
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Illinois state programs help seniors and people with disabilities stay home by linking them to paid+volunteer caregivers through the Departments on Aging and Human Services. Chicago residents can access support from the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and Family and Support Services, which offer training, respite care and referrals. South Side Weekly
- ➤ Sen. Elizabeth Warren and state Sen. Robert Peters visited La Rabida Children’s Hospital on Mar. 13 to tour its facilities and highlight potential Medicaid cuts that could affect care for many patients (90% rely on the program).
