- ➤ A new Barnes & Noble opened in Hyde Park at 1524 E. 55th St. on March 4, and Ald. Desmon Yancy, store manager Raquel Wakins, and author Lindsay Currie cut the ribbon to mark the launch. Hyde Park Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UIC is testing Sim-Comfort, a simulation-based tool that helps nursing and medical students practice person-first communication. The tool, developed with standardized patient actors, will be added to courses and further tested with diverse groups to boost care training. Today UIC
- ➤ UIC is celebrating Give a Spark Day today by asking Flames to donate for scholarships, research, and patient care on campus. Alumna Kay Schwichtenberg pledged $250,000 and challenged others to contribute. Today UIC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Professor Judith Schlaeger (UIC) published a double-blind study showing real acupuncture eased vulvodynia pain longer than a placebo treatment, with effects lasting up to three months. She will soon test acupuncture for chest and sickle cell pain as an alternative to reduce opioid use. Today UIC
