COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. — a longtime leader of Chicago’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition — died Tuesday morning at his South Shore home with family present. Public observances in Chicago will be announced to honor his legacy and civil rights work.  Hyde Park Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UIC and One Hope United have partnered to expand the Hope House program for foster youth, and UIC researchers will collect and analyze data over the next year and a half to build a national model — a move aimed at boosting stability for Illinois youth in care.  Today UIC
  • UIC professors Philip Engel and Andy Nguyen received the Sloan Research Fellowship on Feb. 17, with each earning $75,000 to support two years of research in math and chemistry. The awards, announced by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation among 126 fellows, highlight their innovative work at UIC.  Today UIC
