➤ Chicago Public Library, DCASE and the Poetry Foundation celebrated Mayda del Valle’s appointment as Chicago’s second Poet Laureate this January at the Chicago Cultural Center. She will serve for two years — receiving a $70,000 grant to commission new works and create local programming. South Side Weekly

➤ At a Pilsen bar, bouncers initially rejected a Venezuelan resident’s CityKey ID last fall despite its design to help Chicagoans facing ID challenges; staff later explained the scanner did not recognize the card and said it would now accept it (amid a citywide push to boost business participation).
